Born on 24 December 1997, Subedar Neeraj Chopra is an absolute champion when it comes to Javelin throw. At only 25 years of age, the Indian sports star has won a plethora of medals at several international stages. Chopra hails from Khandra village, Panipat district in Haryana, and is the son of a farmer.

Neeraj Chopra shot into the limelight when he won a gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games with a throw of 82.23 m, where he equalled the Indian national record. Post that, he won a gold medal in the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland as well and has not looked back since then.

However, his biggest shoot to stardom came when he won the Olympic gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. India had never seen a medal in an athletics event since independence.

Neeraj set a world junior record in 2016 but still failed to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics. This came as a shock to a lot of sports enthusiasts in India who were expecting him to go through. However, the young man kept his cool and shined bright at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and the rest is history.

Neeraj scripted history when he won India’s first-ever Gold medal in Javelin throw as well as in Athletics. However, sports experts saw this coming a long while ago. In May 2018, Neeraj had already broken the national record at the Doha Diamond League with a throw of 87.43 meters.

Having won Olympic gold, Chopra went on to win silver and gold at the 2022 World Championships and Diamond League respectively. Having missed out gold in 2022, Chopra made up for it at the 2023 World Champions in Budapest.
