Katy Perry is a California Girl

One of Katy’s most famous songs is California Gurls. It was released in 2010 and in collaboration with Snoop Dogg, who features in the song and also co-wrote it. This was the lead single for Katy Perry’s third studio album, called Teenage Dream. The album debuted number one on the Billboard 200. California Gurls soon reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and has one of Katy’s most memorable music videos to-date! Perhaps, it was the California sky that was the inspiration for Katy’s favorite color? Or maybe the sea?

Katy spends a lot of time in her hometown, and she is not afraid to speak out about her love for her hometown. She has said, “I make a lot of music there ‘cause it’s only an hour and fifteen minutes away from L.A. at the right times and the energy level is so dramatically different — people, priorities, community, connection.”

Katy Experiments with Her Hair Often

Katy’s personality is best described as being colorful, and one of the ways she expresses it is through her ever-changing hair. Katy Perry is the one star who has managed to have almost every haircut, color, and style imaginable at some point, and has always pulled it off too! Even though her signature hair is shiny, black, and long, she has sported every color from pink to blue to blonde; and every style from wigs to pixies.

Katy’s hair is naturally a light squirrel-brown. Her favorite color is blue, and she has had blue hair on more than one occasion. The first time she was seen with blue hair was when she showed up to the 2010 MTV Movie Awards in a cobalt blue wig, which was styled with voluminous curls and blunt bangs. The next year, she dyed her actual hair a light, Smurf-colored blue, and wore matching blue eyeshadow to complete her looks often.

She changed her hair to pink a few months later – she showed up to the 2011 VMAs with baby pink hair. However, in 2012, Katy went back to blue hair for the 25th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards, to which she wore a long and blue ponytail with unicorn hues

She returned to her silky black hair in 2013, but she sported green hair for most of her Prismatic World Tour during 2014, and she has said that this was actually her favorite hair color out of all the ones she’s had so far! She told People, “I actually really liked my green phase for a long time.”

Katy has also had pixies in both brown and different shades of blonde. Where clothing is concerned, she likes colors that are iridescent.

Katy Used to Be a Gospel Singer

Katy grew up in a religious household; both her parents were pastors and born-again Christians. Her education consisted of various religious camps and schools, and she even sang at her parents’ church during her teen years. Since secular music was discouraged in her house, Katy listened to mostly Gospel music growing up. Her first album, Katy Hudson, was a collection of her gospel songs that she wrote herself.

Even though she isn’t strictly religious herself, Katy is still spiritual. She has said, “I pray all the time – for self-control, for humility.” Her spirituality also extends to her Transcendental Meditation practices which she learned with her ex-husband Russel Brand.

She said, “I start the day with Transcendental Meditation. It puts me in the best mood. I wake up and just prop myself up in bed for 20 minutes. It’s the only time my mind gets absolute rest.”
