The Minnesota Timberwolves did a clean sweep of the Phoenix Suns in the first round of their playoff series game. Despite the joyful nature of the victory, it didn’t end as planned. Head coach, Chris Finch was helped off the court late after colliding with one of his players on the sideline.
This occurred during the closing stages of the fourth quarter. Finch collided with point guard, Mike Conley as he drove down the court and was forced out of bounds by Phoenix Suns’ guard Devin Booker. Finch was then seen holding his right knee, later surrounded by T-Wolves staff and players before being helped off the court and into the medical room.
The team later confirmed he had ruptured his patellar tendon. However, Coach Finch left the arena on a cart and didn’t address the media after. Assistant coach Micah Nori took over, where he shared what happened behind the scenes between the players and Coach Finch.
Earlier yesterday, Coach Finch was announced as the third-place coach behind winner Mark Daigneault of the Oklahoma City Thunder and second-place Jamahl Mosley of the Orlando Magic for NBA Coach of the Year. Finch led the T-Wolves to the second-most wins in their franchise history.
T-Wolves’ Chris Finch third in Coach of the Year voting as OKC Thunder’s Mark Daigneault wins
The wait continues for the Minnesota Timberwolves for a coach under them win the coveted NBA Coach of the Year gong. For this year’s category, the Oklahoma City Thunder coach, Mark Daigneault was named the Coach of the Year. This was after he extraordinarily led his young team to the top seed in the highly contested Western Conference.
Timberwolves coach Chris Finch emerged third after leading the T-Wolves to a 56-26 regular-season record. They were the top team in the Western Conference for much of the season, and they had a chance to lock in the spot but lost to the Phoenix Suns on the last game of the regular season only to get revenge by having a clean sweep over them in the playoff series.
This season, he has helped turn Anthony Edwards into one of the hottest guards in the league, which has earned him praise from Michael Jordan, as well as set career highs in points per game (25.9), assists per game (5.1), field-goal percentage (46.1%) and free-throw percentage (83.6%) this season. The Wolves would want their coach to recover as quickly as possible, as he is crucial for morale as they enter the next post-season phase.
