MOSCOW, Idaho (CBS2) — The University of Idaho sent an email Monday notifying students and staff that the campus would be closed due to poor air quality from the smoke.
For Tuesday and Wednesday, operations for the school include:
- All classes will be held using remote/online formats only. No in-person classes are permitted.
- If you are already working from home, please continue to do so.
- Work from home if you are able to do so and notify your supervisor. No paperwork is needed to support this for these two days.
- If you cannot effectively work from home, each Vice President will be compiling a list of those eligible for paid administrative leave. Please contact your supervisor.
- Essential employees required to be on campus should report to work as usual.
- Events can only be held in virtual formats.
- COVID-19 testing will continue as planned in the Student Recreation Center. Contact covid19questions@uidaho.edu with questions.
- All offices should maintain accessibility through phone, email, or Zoom.
"Not only is it a health concern for our Vandal family but it also causes significant issues with our air handling systems," the school said. "The thick smoke clogs filters which can lead to significant damage. Most air handling systems were shut down today in an effort to avoid damage."
Residence halls will stay open and food will be served for students on campus.
"If we have learned anything through the pandemic, it is that we are agile," the university said.
University of Idaho will announce further plans for Thursday and Friday on Wednesday.
