Status Effects in Minecraft are either a good or bad condition that the players get inflicted by. These can vary in their effects and their duration and the manner in which it can afflict players. The Bad Omen is a bad status effect that lasts for a long time and is not directly harmful to the players.

Minecraft Bad Omen
This status effect appears on the players when they kill a Pillager Raid Captain or better known as Illager Captains.

Illager Captains appear in Illager Patrols, Woodland Mansions, Pillager Outposts and in Raids. Upon killing one, a sign appears over the screen of the player which showcases a angry pillager with red eyes and two big axes.
This effect can only be applied on players or on tamed wolves which kill the Pillager captain. In both cases, the player gets the effect. However, other mobs do not get the effect when killing the captain.
Effects of Bad Omen
When players get the Minecraft Bad Omen effect they will trigger a Raid when they are near a village. The status effect can also scale with the potency, those being I till V. This determines the strength of the mobs that spawn during the Raid.
At Level V in Hard mode, almost 7-8 waves of mobs will spawn in a single Raid. The Pillagers, Vindicators, Ravagers, Pillager captains and Witches spawn during this and attack the players can villagers.
If the player successfully thwarts the attempts of the Pillagers to destroy the village, they get the Hero of the Village effect which gives them a massive discount in trades and also free items from villagers.
But if the Pillagers destroy the village, then they dance around in joy by jumping up and down throwing their hands up.
Players can negate the effect by dying once or by Drinking Milk.
