The Kansas City Chiefs made an intriguing move this afternoon, trading star wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for multiple draft picks.
The Chiefs offloaded Hill and his future salary, as he will sign with the Dolphins for four years and $120 million, with $72.2 million guaranteed. With this, Hill will become the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.
In exchange, the Chiefs will receive three draft picks this year (2022 first round, second round and fourth round), along with a 2023 fourth round and 2023 sixth round pick. Thus, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, despite being a winning team, now hold two first-round draft picks in the 2022 NFL draft, although they are both the last picks, at 29 and 30.

Other teams were also in on Hill, including the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets. Notably, the Jets offered the same contract that the Dolphins offered, but Hill ultimately chose Miami over the Jets, as he felt that the Dolphins had a higher chance of being a winning team in the coming seasons. The fact that Florida has a 0% tax also may have influenced Hill’s decision.
Hill, at just 28 years old, is a 6-time Pro Bowler and played a crucial role in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV win in 2020. He will be added to a stacked Dolphins team that has been making aggressive moves this offseason, including adding top free agent Terron Armstead to a five-year, $75 million contract, and acquiring Ced Wilson for three years and $22.8 million.
