Is 2023 World Cup Virat Kohlis last? Chris Gayle answers

July 2024 · 2 minute read

Universe Boss Chris Gayle believes the 2023 ODI World Cup will not be Virat Kohli‘s last World Cup. The ICC trophy has eluded India for over nine years now and they will look to end the long wait later this year. Virat Kohli has represented India in 3 ODI World Cups so far. Hosts India won the 2011 World Cup, but they were ousted by Australia in the 2015 semi-final and saw yet another semi-final heartbreak in 2019 against New Zealand.

Talking to the Times of India Gayle said, “Virat Kohli still has another World Cup in him. I don’t think this is going to be his last World Cup.”

The 34-year-old has scored 1030 runs in 26 matches at the World Cup with a strike rate of 86.70 and an average of 46.81. Kohli has two hundreds and six fifties to his name.

Chris Gayle wants to see Virat Kohli play another World Cup

Chris Gayle strongly believes Virat Kohli is going to stay with India for one more World Cup. Talking about Kohli’s World Cup career and India’s chances, he said, “I think he has another World Cup in him. India are favorites, they play at home as well. So, it’s going to be very interesting.”

The duo has played together for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and share a great friendship off the field as well. The Jamaican wants to see his former teammate back in blue for the 2027 World Cup as well. Virat Kohli is definitely a sure pick for India’s WC squad this year but with Suryakumar Yadav probably in the mix, it will be interesting to see where he bats.
