Origin of Hartalika Teej Vrat

According to Hindu mythology, Shiva ignored Parvati’s love for a long time because he was troubled by Sati’s death. For numerous years, Parvati undertook extreme austerities on the Himalayas to attract Shiva’s attention. According to some Puranas, Goddess Parvati fasted for 16 years and survived on grass and fruits. Shiva finally agreed to marry Parvati after acknowledging her dedication and love.

Women observe Hartalika Teej Vrat to remember Parvati’s tenacity in wooing her love. Goddess Parvati is said to be pleased with the women who observe the Vrat. The Hartalika Teej Vrat tale has various regional versions. However, the essence remains the same.
