BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — The Broncos pulled out a win against New Mexico 28-14.

But for one Boise family, Thursday's game meant more than just football.

Kristen and Nikko Worthington were diagnosed with different forms of cancer just four months apart.

The family found out 13-year-old Nikko has a rare form of cancer in May of 2017.

And they have spent the majority of their time since in a hospital. But not this Thursday.

“We spend a lot of time in the hospital and not a lot of time at school and not a lot of time to visit friends, so a chance to get out and enjoy the ballgame – that’s a good day," said Rick Worthington.

The Worthington family took a break from it all to see their favorite football team play - the Boise State Broncos.

“They came and saw me in the hospital and took a picture with me and it was really cool that they did that,” said Nikko.

For dad and 670 KBOI radio host Rick Worthingtonit was more than just a football game.

“Well I think that.I think that today is about fun. Nikko spent an awful lot of his summer at the hospital, and so today we get an opportunity to just have fun, be a kid, watch ballgames, scream and shout, maybe dip into some cotton candy a little bit later.”
